Death of Herbert Murton, one of The Alberts dead

IN 1914 Herbert Alfred Murton was a young man, married to Louisa and working as a Van Boy for the Post Office in Richmond. He lived with Louisa at 2 Lorne Road in The Alberts, where his parents also lived.

He was serving as a Private in the 7th Battalion East Surrey Regiment when he was killed, aged 19, in the fighting at Loos on 13 October 1915. Loos was the largest British battle of 1915. Alfred is commemorated on the Loos Memorial and on the memorial in Holy Trinity church, Richmond.
