First memorial to a Richmond soldier

On September 11 1915, the Richmond Herald recorded the erection of the first memorial to a Richmond soldier killed in the war.

The memorial in Holy Trinity Church was put up for Private Clifford Eaton King. Clifford had been killed on 30 April 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres. He was buried in the Commonwealth War Grave cemetery Voormezeele Enclosure, 4km south of Ypres.
